The UNWA Welfare Committee has provided support to the following ten organisations/individuals, mostly located in Dhaka, since April 2002:

Ibrahim School

To support the school near the Tejgaon railway, where homeless people relocated themselves after being forced out of a building in Karwan Bazar by the government in 2001. The school is run by sisters in one room occupied by more than 50 children.

School of Hope

To assist the school, which has been running classes from kindergarten up to grade 5 in a slum area in Banani, to initiate provision of adult literacy education using the same premises.

DNSKS

To support the school and the clinic run by DNSKS, an organisation assisting deprived women and children.

Assistance for Blind Children

To support ABC's girls hostel in Ghazipur. ABC has been working since 1978 to prevent blindness, and to provide treatment and community based rehabilitation of blind boys and girls.

Baptist Sangha School for Blind Girls

To support the school to purchase education materials.

Community Participation and Development

To support CPD, who serves a refugee community, in establishing an adolescent girls' club with a library, games and musical instruments, and day care facilities (for girls who need to look after their young siblings while their mothers are at work).

Participatory Development Action Programme

To support PDAP's education, public health, and poverty alleviation activities for poor women and adolescent girls. Provided funds to purchase raw materials for sari production, setting up of a water point, school dresses, etc.

Missionary of Charity (Mother Teresa's Home)

To provide help and assistance to patients.

Inner Wheel Club of Dhaka Mid-town

For the treatment of two very poor patients suffering from a serious blood disease - thalassaemia.

Sister Julienne Hayes

To help a young garment worker undergo an emergency appendectomy operation.
