Fun Fashion Event – November General Meeting

A mini-fashion show was held for the UNWA General Meeting on 16 November, featuring dresses designed by Kuhu and Duriya. About 20 UNWA members and guests revealed their secret talents on the catwalk of Ball Room of Sonargaon Hotel, elegantly dressed in one-of-a-kind saris and shalwar kameez.

Kuhu

Kuhu is an artist, a painter who portrays the faces of people in the streets of Dhaka. As a part of her art statement, she creates what she calls "Wearable Art." Her clothes are comfortable and elegant, bringing with them a sense of drama for the wearer and the occasion. Working with silk, muslin, crepe bechine and chiffon, her inspirations are transferred to the fabric through silk dyeing and lost wax methods, and finished with meticulous beading, stitching or embroidery. She always works with each of her customers so that their favorite colors, motifs or designs are incorporated.

Duriya

Innovation, originality and freshness are the hallmarks that single out Duriya’s creations. In a decade of designing, she has developed creative embroidery techniques to fashion traditional saris, shalwar kameez and garments into outstanding works of art. Her talents are not confined to costume design. She has also been working with jute, always considered a medium of limited scope, and has elevated it into a high fashion tool by creating sophisticated accessories to ornament the home.
