Eid Gift Bags for Street Children

UNWA is pleased to announce the Eid-Ul-Azha gift-giving project. Several schools specifically educating street children have been contacted with regards to useful ideas for Eid gift bags for the children. Since this is our first attempt at an offering of this type, it has been decided to limit the recipient organization to one that is local and well known within the community. The ABC School located in Bashundhara has approximately 60 children enrolled at their school for street children. Since putting together bags for this amount of children is manageable, we will start with them. Our hopes are to be able to donate more gifts to indigenous schools for street children during the next Eid.

The gift bags will include the following in a re-usable locally made cloth sac:

·        Pens

·        Art pencils

·        Paper

·        Lungi

·        Toothbrush

·        Toothpaste

·        Biscuits

·        Candies

The total cost for each bag will be approximately 335 Taka, depending on market availability of a few of the products. The Board decided that President Tazeen and the Welfare Committee Chair Anowara as well as Tara O’Day (the Eid project coordinator) will visit the NGO to present the 100 Eid kits during the school’s classroom time (Sunday through Thursday 8-11:30) or Saturday during morning playtime before February 9, 2003 .

Please contact Tara O’Day at 882-4700 extension 2315 for more information on the gift bags. If you are interested in volunteering at the school, please contact Dr. David Fussell, ABC School Board of Directors.
