Welfare Activities in July

Five new projects received grants from UNWA in July. On the recommendation of the Welfare Committee, the Board approved the five applicants. In addition, three people in urgent need of life-saving assistance were helped with a grant from the Little Miracle Fund.

The beneficiaries of project grants are:

  1. Society for the Lowest Urban Mass (SLUM). The grant will be used for sewing machines and training in sewing for destitute women and girls in the Bhatara slum area of the city.

  2. Ibrahim School, located near Tejgaon railway station, serves children of squatter families in the Tejgaon area. These children are unable to attend regular public schools because of poverty and their uncertain residential status.

  3. Assistance for Blind Children (ABC), which provides educational services to blind children.

  4. Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), an organization that assists physically disabled children.

  5. Green Herald School Evening Programme, which offers an educational programmes in the evening to the children of the poor Tamil community.

The funds have been delivered to all the project recipients.

There has been a lull in the activities of the Welfare Committee during the summer. With the return of the members, the committee will be busy again. Members will visit several projects that have asked for assistance during the coming weeks.
