Annual Reports: UNWA President

Vanessa Brooks

We are launching our UNWA activities in the fall with the UN Ball, which will take place on September 30th.

This year, the UN Ball will have a special significance as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of membership of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in the United Nations. The special anniversary coupled with the celebration of the International Year of Rice embraces two themes that highlight the UN and its thirty years in assisting Bangladesh in its development of its most precious natural resources and its human potential. We are taking the opportunity to expand our network of support within the greater Bangladeshi community and strengthening the participation of the UN and its development partners in this event.

Our welfare projects aim to promote the advancement and well being of the entire Bangladeshi society, by devoting UNWA’s attention to those who can best benefit from our support. As we approach both our long-standing and new contributors to UNWA, it is our hope that they too will embrace our work, see its value and support us through participating in this fundraising event. This is where each member can contribute to our Welfare Committee’s work.

We are aiming for full participation from the UN and diplomatic communities and hope to attract more support from the Bangladesh business community through the sale of tables, the donation of silent auction items and raffle prizes. The UN Ball Committee is well on its way to making the preparations and establishing communications with our family of contributors to this event and welcomes your support in this preparatory stage.

On behalf of the UNWA Board and the UN Ball Committee, I urge all of our members to get involved in promoting this year’s Special Anniversary UN Ball as a time of festive celebration and an opportunity to give.
