" The UN celebrated its
60th year anniversary on 24 October at an Iftar function held by the
Heads of Agencies of the United Nations in Bangladesh at the Sonargaon
Hotel. Honorable President Prof. Iajuddin Ahmed attended and delivered
his speech as the Chief Guest. Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr.
Morshed Khan also delivered a speech. The United Nations
Secretary-General Mr. Kofi Annan’s video-taped message for the occasion
was broadcasted. UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Jørgen Lissner’s delivery
of a stirring message and UNICEF Representative Mr. Louis-George
Arsenault’s presentation of the remastered DVD on the Concert for
Bangladesh with George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, were high points of
the function. The entire house was touched by the oratory skills of
petite Intesar Faruque, a tenth-grader from Green Herald International
School who gave an impassioned speech on the significance of the UN." ~
